Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar is the American and British sitarist. She is the youngest woman and the first to be awarded a British House of Commons shield. Anoushka is a rising star in Indian sitar. She is the child of Ravi Shankar and a former student. Her childhood was spent bouncing back and forth from London to New Delhi. At the age of 13, her first show in New Delhi took place. After moving to Encinitas, CA in 1999 she received an honorary high school degree. Anouskha was only an teen, has enjoyed an impressive recording and performing career. She has been performing with her father in the stage for a long time. Her first solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. The album was released in 2002. her Grammy award-winning album Live At Carnegie Hall. Alongside performing at all of the largest venues as well, she has an extensive stage presence. Anoushka's career goes beyond the realm of music. In 2002, she released a book entitled Bapi The of My Life. of My Live this is a pictorial biography which is a respect to her dad Ravi Shankar. Also, she appeared in the film "Dance Like a Man" in 2003. Her role was a Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka is still progressing in her professional career, and we can expect many new things that will be coming from this talented woman. Anoushka Shankar is a British born singer who travelled her early days in London, Delhi and California. Anoushka Shankar started her musical studies when she was nine. After four years she played her first music debut with the sitar Delhi for her father's 70th birthday party. As a part of her dad's band as he toured the world Anoushka was able to accumulate a variety of performances in Carnegie Hall while still in her teens, performing in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival as well as performing together with George Harrison. She was the youngest woman to be awarded the House of Commons Shield, awarded by British Parliament in recognition of her talent and musicianship within music and the Asian Arts.
